The Role: Senior Application Support Engineer

Gemini is establishing itself as the industry leading exchange for institutional trading of digital assets. You will be at the forefront of providing support to Gemini’s customer base and will work closely with our engineering teams on the continuous improvement of the Gemini platform. You are customer focused and have a track record of being an application support expert within the Financial Technology space. Building and configuring internal operational tools is something that you enjoy and excel in. You will leverage your experience to help Gemini bridge the gap between traditional Financial Service platforms and our world class digital asset exchange.

This role will be based in our Singapore office once it is safe to return to the workplace. 

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support services to Gemini’s institutional and retail customer base as well as partnered vendors, with a focus on Gemini APIs, network connectivity, and application support 
Investigate and precisely communicate application issues referencing appropriate logs to Gemini development teams 
Maintain and deploy API documentation, accounting for relevant engineering changes for all Gemini APIs 
Assist all support teams with operational tools to help the overall support service at Gemini 
Clearly articulate issues to customers in a way that instills confidence and reliability 
Assist in the on-boarding and certification process of FIX and Web API customers 
Provide second level support to sales and business development teams

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree in technical or engineering concentration
3 years of experience in a technical support role at an Exchange, OMS or other Financial Services Technology provider 
Working knowledge of SQL databases and writing well-formed queries
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
Well versed in navigating systems, running commands from a Unix terminal, and measuring system performance 
Extensive experience with Python or other scripting languages 
Extensive experience with APIs ● Experience and passion for cryptocurrency/blockchain technology

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years of experience in a technical support role at an Exchange, OMS or other Financial Services Technology provider 
Deep understanding of FIX protocol and underlying network connectivity approaches. Highly skilled in identifying and solving FIX application issues 
Extensive project management experience, a PMP certification or equivalent. 
Experience with Datadog, Looker, ZenDesk, Docker 
Front end development experience, and familiarity with HTML, CSS, Javascript o React, Flask for Python web server backend.

Develop tools and algorithms to help customers evaluate and use the Tangram Vision platform
Manage technical customer relations and be the liaison between Tangram Vision technology and partner autonomous and perception platforms
Develop unit and integration tests for different sensing modalities
Travel to customer locations to help with integration/training
Improve UX for user-facing perception products through testing and customer discussion
Write and contribute to our internal and user-facing product documentation
Contribute to the Tangram Visions blog with relevant, technical content for a robotics and sensor savvy audience

Communications inside and outside of Tangram on progress and projects
You should expect to travel at least 4 weeks out of the year for company retreats, conferences, and trade shows

Communicate and check-in with each other. Every proposal, piece of documentation, and prototype is meant to be open, malleable, and collaborative. This lets us do our best work while preserving the best aspects of asynchronous work - focus and time. Even so, live communications are encouraged even if its just to check in on someone’s day
Do your part in keeping our operations running smoothly - submitting PTO requests, observing travel budgets, etc.

Must-Have Technical Qualifications...

In our experience, people with the below experiences would thrive in this role. Our tech stack is shown in parentheses, where applicable; experience with a specific tool is not required for this role.

2 years of applied experience or the equivalent with
a large code architecture written in a systems language (we are a Rust shop)
technical customer communication and development
Familiarity with perception and computer vision algorithms, literature, and practical applications
Familiarity with common sensor data types, e.g. image formats, point clouds, gyroscopic data, etc.
Familiarity with coordinate transformations and linear algebra.
Comfortable working on Linux and using the command-line
Proficiency with git. We routinely juggle many branches, resolve conflicts, rebase, squash, and revise. We love informative commit messages and a clean git history

Solve the 1st customer problem: what’s really happening in my city? Research and build the initial community dashboard that 5% of SF residents check regularly. (15% of Taiwanese residents use Polis monthly.)

We are presenting a first version of this at Graph Day on June 2, 2022.
Solve the 2nd customer problem: how can I help? Work with community groups to showcase key metrics, highlight problems, crowdsource solutions, and mobilize work on those solutions using interactive components in the dashboard as well as traditional relationship building and advocacy.

Build a self-organizing community of 100+ researchers who co-create a local Wikipedia for daily urban life.

Create Race To The Top dynamics between SF and other cities to improve their metrics.

Network and collaborate with other projects and communities around civic abundance: NewPublic, Institute for Digital Public Infrastructure, Effective Government California, RadicalXChange, Institute for Progress

You will do all of this in a network-first way: by building community and collaborating with existing communities. If you help other orgs push the frontier of civic tech, that's great!

After 1 year, success looks like: you’ve created a community dashboard that is checked daily by 5% of SF residents. You’ve catalyzed a dedicated community of 100+ folks who building off of this dashboard to showcase key metrics, highlight problems, crowdsource solutions, and work on those solutions.

After 3 years, success looks like: SF has made counterfactual progress on at least 3 KPIs that wouldn’t have happened without the tool. 25+ cities around the world are using similar dashboards and action plans.

You May Be a Fit if You
Have experience creating full-stack applications using modern JavaScript and/or Python frameworks like Remix, React, and Django. (Or want to do so!)

III. Logistics
Type: Full-time.

Time Expectation: Start as soon as possible.

Location: We are a hybrid org based in the SF Bay Area. For this position we’d strongly prefer someone based in the Bay Area, but are open to remote for exceptional candidates, in which case you'd join us for quarterly offsites.

Compensation: This is a founding position, so the starting salary is $80,000/year. We expect to increase it as we grow.

Founding Engineer, Civic Abundance

A UI/UX Designer at Decent assists creatives in existing projects and helps shape the user experience for brand new products. They ensure projects run smoothly, with great interpersonal skills and confidence in handling and delivering client-facing work. As a UI/UX Designer, you’ll take an active role in communicating and delivering great results. You can write and speak fluent English.
